{"id":1788,"date":"2017-12-14T07:00:52","date_gmt":"2017-12-14T13:00:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mrmaresca.com\/wp\/?p=1788"},"modified":"2017-12-13T21:19:03","modified_gmt":"2017-12-14T03:19:03","slug":"writing-in-the-here-and-now","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mrmaresca.com\/wp\/writing-in-the-here-and-now\/","title":{"rendered":"Writing in the Here and Now"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Every once in a while the idea crosses my mind&#8211; what might it have been like to have been a writer in a different time and place?\u00a0 Writing plays in Elizabethan England, for example?\u00a0 But most of the time, I&#8217;m fairly anchored to the here and now, which is possibly the best time ever to be an SFF writer.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m the right age to remember how dire the SFF options were when I was young.\u00a0 For me, Sci-fi and Fantasy was a single rack of shelves in the back corner of the Waldenbooks.<\/p>\n<p>Not too long ago, there was a twitter thread , talking about the fantasy genre and the tropes within it. But the whole thing addresses &#8220;fantasy novels&#8221; in the most painfully generic way. It&#8217;s not about actual fantasy novels.
